Magnetic Properties group

The group is supervised by Associate Professor Stanisław Baran. Other group members are: Emeritus Professor Andrzej Szytuła, Dr Teresa Jaworska-Gołąb (Volunteer), Altifani Hayyu (PhD student) and M.Sc. Janusz Ryrych (our technician).

Our scientific interest concentrates on magnetic properties of intermetallic compounds (including rare earth systems and nanoparticles) as well as other novel materials like molecular magnets or materials with optimized thermoelectric properties .

We investigate various physical properties like magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, specific heat, electrical resistivity and Hall coefficient. In order to determine magnetic structures we perform neutron diffraction experiments in collaboration with leading European neutron laboratories like Institut Laue-Langevin (Grenoble, France) or Paul Scherrer Institute (Villigen, Switzerland).

Our laboratory is equipped with Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) by Quantum Design, X'Pert PRO X-ray diffractometer by PANalytical and a number or furnaces (arc and muffle).
